New JC Scholars Participate in a Three-Day Induction Camp
2018-06-16
The latest cohort of JC Scholars took part in a three-day experiential journey that aimed to prepare them to become a member of JC Scholars community and to empower them to become compassionate leaders who contribute to the wider society.
Organised by the JC Scholarship Secretariat, the induction camp was held at the Hong Kong PHAB Association Jockey Club PHAB Camp from 14 to 16 June 2018. Through a series of activities, participants built self-awareness, explored their identity in society, and developed a deeper understanding about current social issues in Hong Kong and around the world.
On the first day, participants learned about some of Hong Kong’s community needs through visits to subdivided flat units and a city orientation game in one of Hong Kong’s age-friendly communities. On the second day, participants experienced the limitations and difficulties faced by elderly and disabled persons through group activities, and connected with past Jockey Club Scholarship recipients who visited the camp to share their own experience in serving the community. On the final day, participants engaged in games that helped them develop a better understanding of global events as well as a greater appreciation for other cultures around the world.
