Chairman's and Striding On Scholarships awardees begin their JC Scholar journey
2025-11-17
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships have awarded the third cohort of the Chairman's and Striding On Scholarships (2025/26 Cohort), comprising 15 Chairman's Scholars and 25 Striding On Scholars. The Induction Programme was successfully completed, including a Welcome Day on 11 September and an Induction Camp on 15 and 16 November.
The Welcome Day provided new JC Scholars an opportunity to connect with each other and learn about The Hong Kong Jockey Club's work and charitable initiatives, helping build a sense of community. Following this, the Induction Camp focused on personal growth and leadership development. Through team-building activities, engaging workshops, and group projects, they reflected on their identities, goals and concepts of care.
Feature activities at the Induction Camp included:
Enriching Talks - JC Scholars explored new perspectives on serving community needs with an emphasis on "care" and "creativity".
Human Library - JC Scholars were inspired by stories shared by their fellow scholars, which helped broaden their perspectives beyond their own fields of study.
Community Kitchen - JC Scholars collaborated to prepare dinner using limited ingredients and resources, which not only enhanced teamwork but also sparked creative problem-solving.
Art Jam – JC Scholars had the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings through creative artwork on canvas, encouraging self-reflection and personal expression.
Group Projects - Each group presented their vision for serving a community they care about, fostering collaboration among peers.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Chairman's and Striding On Scholarships are entrance undergraduate scholarships for students pursuing undergraduate degree programmes at eight University Grants Committee-funded institutions and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. The Chairman's Scholarship is awarded to students with exceptional academic achievement to pursue undergraduate studies in Hong Kong. It is open to eligible applicants from Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland, and other countries and regions. The Striding On Scholarship recognises students who have achieved excellence while demonstrating resilience and strength of mind in overcoming adversity or life challenges.
Feedback from JC Scholars
I was inspired that "not all care is good care." Caring can have negative effects if approached in the wrong way. It prompted me to reflect more on my motivations for caring and how to do so effectively.
The talk on creativity changed my perception of creativity and encouraged me to become more imaginative in my work. I will incorporate what I have learned into my future projects.
After sharing my experiences at the Human Library, I felt deeply cared for and loved by the world. I truly appreciate my groupmates for their support and kindness. It made me realise that I am not as alone as I thought.
I was impressed by my groupmate's story, which revealed how her past experiences have shaped her brave and inspiring personality. This activity helped me understand my peers better and appreciate the uniqueness of each person's journey.
I discovered that painting in silence is surprisingly calming.
As we finished our cooking task, I felt a strong sense of support and warmth within my team. The positive atmosphere truly uplifted our team spirit.
The camp emphasised care, teamwork, and serving society, which I found motivating. As a JC Scholar, I recognise my responsibility to help others.
