Overview
Recipients of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships are named "Jockey Club Scholars", or simply "JC Scholars". JC Scholars not only excel academically and professionally but also demonstrate a strong commitment to making a positive impact in their communities. Aspiring to be keen change-makers, JC Scholars actively engage with local and international leaders and participate in diverse community and volunteering services. Drawing inspiration from these interactions, they equip themselves to become caring leaders for a better Hong Kong.
Induction Programme
All newly awarded JC Scholars will participate in the Induction Programme, designed to enhance self-awareness and familiarise them with The Hong Kong Jockey Club's operations and charity work. The Induction Programme includes a welcome day and an induction camp, which provides valuable opportunities for connection and personal growth. Through this programme, JC Scholars will engage with their community, serve others, and live the true spirit of a JC Scholar. JC Scholars may also have opportunities to visit Jockey Club facilities and participate in social service activities.
Leadership Programme
Since 2016, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships have organised Leadership Programmes designed to provide JC Scholars with a comprehensive learning experience that broadens their global perspective and cultivates their leadership skills. These programmes are held at prestigious universities worldwide, where participating JC Scholars engage in lectures, seminars and workshops conducted by notable speakers and academics.
Leadership Dinner
Leadership Dinners provide an opportunity for JC Scholars to gather and learn from influential dignitaries who share their insights and experiences. The speeches and discussions at these events inspire JC Scholars in their academic pursuits, career development, and community service endeavours. Participating JC Scholars also have the chance to interact and network with these distinguished speakers, as well as with fellow JC Scholars from various cohorts. This experience enriches their leadership perspectives and offers valuable real-world insights.
Community Leaders Sharing
Leaders from various sectors are invited to share their inspiring career stories with JC Scholars. This activity encourages JC Scholars to stay abreast of current trends, and to leverage their knowledge and profession to make a positive impact on society.
Experiential Learning Programme
The Experiential Learning Programme brings together JC Scholars to serve as a force for good. This activity provides opportunities for JC Scholars to explore key concepts and approaches to social issues while engaging in volunteer work, including The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust-initiated Projects ("Trust-initiated Projects") aimed at building an inclusive society.
Recognition Ceremony and Graduation Dinner
The annual Recognition Ceremony and Graduation Dinner is a glamorous event that not only welcomes the new cohort of JC Scholars, but also provides an opportunity for them to connect with one another while celebrating the graduating JC Scholars as they begin their journey into the professional world.
Volunteering Opportunities
The Scholarships Secretariat is dedicated to transforming JC Scholars' passion for social services into action through providing various volunteering opportunities. Some examples include the annual "Riding High Together Lunch for the Elderly" and the "Jockey Club Community Green Playground" at the Hong Kong Flower Show. JC Scholars also participate in Trust-initiated Projects, such as "CLAP for Youth@JC".
The Jockey Club Scholars Alumni Association
The Jockey Club Scholars Alumni Association (JCSAA) was established in 2002 with the support of the Club and officially inaugurated in 2004. Since its inception, it has fostered a close-knit community of alumni, uniting hundreds of JC Scholars across various ages and academic fields. Together, they have participated in numerous events and engaged in diverse service projects. These projects focus on supporting various groups, including the elderly, secondary school students, single-parent families, at-risk youth, children with special needs, young newcomers, and children from ethnic minority backgrounds.
